Frequently Asked Questions
Functional testing measures how well your body is operating — not just whether you have a disease. It looks at nutrient levels, hormones, metabolic pathways, and microbiome health to identify imbalances before symptoms appear.
A standard GP blood test checks a limited set of markers against disease thresholds. Functional testing measures hundreds of markers and reports them against optimal ranges — giving you a far more detailed picture of your health.
No. Baseline Health, operating through Metamorphic Strength & Conditioning, lodges the test request directly through the NutriPATH practitioner portal. This is included when you order — there is no GP referral and no waiting list.
Results for all tests are returned within 5–10 business days of the lab receiving your sample. We send your written results summary as soon as it is ready. (Sequencing-heavy panels can sit at the longer end of that window.)
Every order includes: your collection kit posted to your home, the preparation guide emailed immediately, pre-paid return packaging, lab analysis at NutriPATH, and a written results summary with personalised recommendations. A 1:1 practitioner consultation is available as an optional add-on at checkout — it is not required to receive and read your results.
You receive a written results summary with personalised recommendations that you can read yourself — included with every test. If you'd like someone to walk you through it, you can add an optional 1:1 practitioner consultation ($149) at checkout for a deeper review and an action plan. See Understanding Your Results for detail.
Your kit contains everything needed to collect and return your sample: the collection container(s) or swab, step-by-step printed instructions, and a pre-paid express or courier satchel for the return journey. Nothing extra to buy.
It depends on the test. Microbiomix (stool), Oral Microbiome (cheek swab), and Mycotoxin (urine) are collected entirely at home. NutriSTAT requires a blood draw, so you take that part of the kit to a local pathology collection centre — the urine portion is still done at home.
Each test has a specific preparation guide that is emailed to you immediately after purchase and printed in your kit. Follow it carefully — fasting, supplement, and dietary steps directly affect the accuracy of your results.
Your kit is designed for postal return, and the preparation guide tells you which days to collect so your sample reaches the lab while it is still stable. The key rule: collect early in the week and post the same day, so nothing sits in transit over a weekend. If you miss your window, contact us before posting rather than sending a sample that may be degraded.
Yes — each test is ordered separately. Many clients start with the NutriSTAT 5005 for a full metabolic overview and add gut, oral, or mycotoxin testing based on their symptoms and exposure history.
A clear written report showing each marker that was measured, reported against functional optimal ranges (not only broad disease thresholds), alongside prioritised, personalised recommendations. No raw spreadsheet to decode.
Because each order triggers a physical kit and a lab request, refunds aren't available once your kit has been dispatched. If you change your mind before dispatch, contact us at hello@functionaltest.com.au and we'll help. If something goes wrong with collection, reach out before posting your sample and we'll work through the options with you.
No — these are functional pathology tests ordered through NutriPATH and are not covered by Medicare. Some private health funds may offer partial rebates depending on your plan.
All samples are processed by NutriPATH Integrative Pathology, an accredited Australian laboratory based in Melbourne.
You receive a preparation guide by email immediately. We submit the lab request within one business day, and your collection kit is dispatched to your home. You collect your sample, return it in the pre-paid packaging, and we send your written results summary once the lab is done.
